I Giovani Solisti, the chamber orchestra made up of the premier string musicians from both Conard and Hall High Schools, is preparing for its annual Chocolate Café to be presented at the West Hartford Town Hall Auditorium Saturday, February 27 at 7 p.m. For connoisseurs of both chamber music and chocolate, the annual event provides a combination of musical and edible offerings, traditionally selling out to an audience of more than 400.
Tickets are available by mail at $15 each for reserved table seating (8 per table) and $10 each for balcony seating. Each ticket includes one dessert and one beverage. Request a ticket form by e-mail or by calling 860-231-5000, ext. 6038.
The concert, which will feature a lively mix of classical, contemporary and popular music, will include the 2010 Inter-El Orchestra and several soloists from I Giovani Solisti. Those who attend will experience the majesty of Vaughan-Williams, the fiery virtuocity of Sarasate, and toe-tapping fiddle tunes while enjoying a delicious chocolate dessert.
Currently celebrating its 26th year, I Giovani Solisti is led by Director Stephen Clink. The group was founded in 1983 with the goal of providing talented string musicians from the two public high schools the opportunity to perform great literature composed for string orchestra. I Giovani Solisti has been nationally recognized by Down Beat magazine as the Best High School Chamber Music Group nine different years since the group was formed. The orchestra is active in the community, performing at schools, churches, senior centers and various events.
