Scholarship applications accepted for seniors entering "helping professions"
 Friday - February 05, 2010

High school seniors considering a future in one of the “helping professions” may apply for a $500 college scholarships offered by the Connecticut Funeral Directors Association (CFDA).

The program is in its tenth year.
A total of eight scholarships will be presented – one to a student in each of the State’s eight counties.

The CFDA academic scholarship awards program supports graduating high school seniors who are pursuing careers in a profession that provides emotional or medical support for families. This includes such fields as counseling, social services, psychology, psychiatry, nursing, medicine, social work, gerontology and funeral service.

“Funeral directors understand how important it is to support others during difficult times, and we hope to motivate more graduates to consider jobs where they will provide assistance to people in need,” said CFDA President Shauna Molloy. “Our organization created this program to encourage young people to follow their dreams and consider careers where they can help families.”

The application deadline is April 9. To receive an application, call the association at 860-721-0234 or download it here. The form must be neat and legible, filled out completely, and have a current high school transcript attached.

To be eligible, candidates must be graduating in June 2010, be a state resident, and have maintained at least a B average in Grades 10, 11 and 12.

For more information, call 860-721-0234.
