The Hartt School Community Division of the University of Hartford will hold auditions for the International Summer Ballet Academy on February 14. Applications and complete information about the audition process can be found here www.hcd.hartford.edu, by calling 860-768-6000, or by sending an email.
The academy runs June 20 – July 24. It is geared towards advanced and intermediate students, ages 13–21, from around the world who seek four weeks of intensive pre-professional training, performance and artistic camaraderie.
The academy will give students the chance to work with world-renowned dancer Miguel Campaneria, chairman of the Hartt Community Division Dance Department. The Cuban-born Campaneria has performed with many of the top companies and prima ballerinas in the world. He has danced principal roles in such ballets as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Romeo and Juliet, Giselle, and Coppelia. In 2007, President Bush appointed him to serve on the National Council of the Arts, the advisory board of the National Endowment for the Arts.
The academy will also feature a faculty of world-class dancers and teachers, including Haiyan Wu, principal dancer, Miami City Ballet, and gold medalist in the USA International Ballet Competition; and Kurt Douglas, a principal dancer with the Limón dance company
