Masked gunman opens fire at Nashville church killing one, injuring seven people

25-year-old Emanuel Kidega Samson is originally from Khartoum, Sudan and legally immigrated to the United States in the 1990s.

The gunman was discharged hours later from Vanderbilt University Hospital but remained in police custody.

Samson, 25, came to the United States from Sudan in the 1990s and is a legal US resident.

The attack began about 11:15 a.m.in the parking lot of the Burnette Chapel Church of Christ, a 90-member congregation that meets about 25 minutes southeast of downtown Nashville.

Police are still determining Samson's motive.
