Ghani Says New US Afghan Strategy More Likely To Succeed

Neither Trump nor Afghan President Ashraf Ghani mentioned Pakistan when they appeared publicly together after their discussion.

After meeting Ghani, Trump praised efforts to drive the Taliban and extremist groups out of Afghanistan.

President Trump last month announced a new strategy that includes sending 4,000 more troops to Afghanistan, in addition to about 8,400 US and 5,000 North Atlantic Treaty Organization troops there advising Afghan security forces.

Afghanistan has been gripped by insecurity since the United States and its allies invaded the country as part of Washington's so-called war on terror in 2001. "We are leading a lot of wonderful Afghan troops who are fighting very hard. and great progress is being made".
