Nawaz Sharif's Supporters Win a Pakistan Election

According to the unofficial results, Kulsoom Nawaz secured 61,745 votes while her rival, Yasmeen Rashid of the opposition Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) or Justice Movement bagged 47099 votes, an election official said at a news conference Monday morning.

Advocate Ishtiaq Ahmad Chaudhry of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), PPP's Faisal Mir and Nabeel Shahzad of the Milli Muslim League (MML) had filed the petitions in the High Court.

Election banners for MML's candidate, Muhammad Yaqoob Sheikh, prominently featured images of Hafiz Muhammad Saeed, the JuD chief and founder of LeT. Saeed remains under house arrest, although under no formal charges, by Pakistani authorities under an anti-terrorism law.

The election was also significant because of Muhammad Yaqub Sheikh, a United States designated terrorist.

NIA conducts raids at residences of Hurriyat-G leaders
