NIA conducts raids at residences of Hurriyat-G leaders

The NIA on Wednesday conducted raids at 11 locations in Srinagar and 5 in Delhi in connection with the Funding case.

The residents of Shariatabad Budgam on thursday stormed into the residence of Aga Syed Hasan, senior Hurriyat leader where NIA slueths were conducting a raid and raised massive slogans against the investigating agency. Sources said two houses and a shopping complex were raided by the NIA in Srinagar and Kupwara.

The raids are being conducted also at various locations in Srinagar and frontier district of Kupwara.

The leaders include Shia cleric and politician Agha Syed Hassan al-Mousvi in central Budgam and Ghulam Nabi Sumji in southern Bijbehara towns.

NIA sleuths also raided the houses of Showkat Bakshi, a close aide of JKLF chief Yasin Malik, and his brother Shakeel Bakshi in Srinagar's Bemina area.

All this is being done in the name of so-called terror funding and that Kashmiri resistance movement spearheaded by Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Muhammad Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik is a sponsored struggle.

The NIA spokesman said offices of the Chartered Accountants of leading Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Watali, who is already under NIA custody, and residences of cross-LoC traders were also searched.

During the searches, FDs worth over Rs 1 crore, and lots of incriminating material, suspect's financial records, property-related documents and electronic devices have been seized.

The NIA is said to be probing all aspects of funding to the separatist leaders and how they reportedly used these funds to foment unrest in the valley.

Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate is likely to register a money laundering case against some separatist leaders facing investigation by the NIA on charges of receiving terror funding from across the border to stoke unrest in the valley.
