FOX's Ken Rosenthal reported Sunday, citing sources, that the defending World Series champions are close to obtaining reliever Justin Wilson from the Detroit Tigers, as well as catcher Alex Avila. The Cubs will have to make two more moves to add Wilson and Avila to their active roster before Tuesday night's series opener against Arizona.
The Cubs' package emerged as the victor among four teams that ranked as the finalists, including the Astros, Nationals and Dodgers. Wilson and Avila will help, but the team has already played better over the last two weeks than they did earlier in the season and this move just adds to their already talented team.

Wilson was the deal's true prize anyway.

The Cubs had no room for Candalerio - some guy named Kris Bryant blocked his path - and he certainly has some offensive tools, hitting.266/.361/.507 at Triple-A Iowa at age 23 (and had even better numbers there previous year in 300 at-bats). "We will continue to evaluate our players on the field, the players we acquired, and the players in our minor-league system for the remainder of the season".
Wilson, 29, has an earned-run-average of 2.68, to go along with a record of 3-4 with 13 saves in 42 appearances this season.
He's playing shortstop right now, but as he finishes growing and filling out, Paredes's future is probably at third base. He is effective against both lefties and righties, with left-handed batters hitting.220 against him while right-handers are at.131.
