Colorado unemployment at record-low 2.3 percent for third straight month

Colorado's unemployment rate held steady for another month at 2.3 percent in June - a record low unemployment rate, the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment announced today. Illinois Department of Employment Security spokesman Bob Gough says 8600 jobs were added last month.

In May, the jobless rate had declined to a 10-year low of 4.4 percent.

EDD says occupations with the most job ads in Sacramento last month were: registered nurses, truck drivers and retail salespersons. Nonfarm employment increased to 9,400 jobs during the month to 3.96 million, also a record.

Despite the growth in jobs, the overall labor force shrank again.

Exxon Says "Egregious" Sanctions Violations Were Just a Misunderstanding
The American oil giant was found to have conducted business with Igor Sechin , the head of the state-owned Rosneft in May 2014. On a trip to Kiev earlier this month, he said the sanctions would not be lifted until Russian Federation met its obligations.

Illinois' unemployment rate is still three-tenths of a percentage point behind the national average.

The U.S. unemployment rate also ticked up over the month, to 4.4 percent from 4.3 percent.

"This was the fourth consecutive decline in labor force, which is now at its lowest level in IL since March of 2006", Gough said. The education and health services sector decreased by 1,000 jobs in June. "Despite a slight increase in unemployment, labor market fundamentals remain strong, with total year-over-year employment up 2 percent".

"Right now, the over-the-year growth isn't negative", he said.

Gedney, however, questioned the construction employment estimates for June, saying he didn't think those moved lower. Alaska had the highest unemployment rate in the nation at 6.8 percent, Gedney said.

Statewide, the largest private-sector job gains were in trade, transportation, utilities, professional and business services, and leisure and hospitality.

Employers in Colorado added 6,500 nonfarm payroll jobs from May to June for a total of 2,647,000 jobs, according to the survey of business establishments.
