It was reported earlier this month by Sky Sports that West Ham discussed the possibility of bringing in Hernandez, a move that would both satisfy the team's need for another striker and bring in a player with prior Premier League experience.

West Ham have agreed a deal with German side Bayer Leverkusen to sign striker Javier Hernandez.

Having scored 59 in 157 goals at Manchester United during a six-year spell under Sir Alex Ferguson, he went on to a short loan at Real Madrid followed by a transfer to Bayer Leverkusen where he subsequently scored 39 in 76.

Hernandez, who struggled to nail down a regular spot in the side at Manchester United, has had success in Germany at the BayArena, while continuing to kick on with Mexico at worldwide level.

The Austrian worldwide has signed a five year deal worth £130,000-a-week to make the move to the London Stadium.

West Ham United are close on signing the former Manchester United striker for a reported fee of 13 million pounds as they look to solve their attacking problem of a year ago which saw them net just 47-goals throughout the entire campaign.

Hart and his former Manchester City team-mate are already in training with Slaven Bilic's squad, while Mexico global Hernandez is expected to undergo a medical on Monday to conclude a £13m move from Bayer Leverkusen.

He will join Stoke's Marko Arnautovic, who is also set to complete a medical this week ahead of his move to West Ham too. A hefty fee, but it shows the clear intent of West Ham to improve their attacking abilities and push higher up the table next season.

There had been doubts in Mexico about whether West Ham are the right level for Hernandez, but the club's recent transfer business leads Record to inform its readers that the club is going places.

Whatever the outcome, and judging by Thursday's pre-season friendly victory against Fulham in Austria, Manuel Lanzini will remain West Ham's most important player.
