Man investigated in 6-year-old daughter's death points to wife

Jason Quate, 34, was taken into custody on Tuesday after his wife told police that the man killed their daughter two years ago, when they lived in IL, and buried her body, KSNV reports.

A separate child abuse charge against Quate is pending, said Audrie Locke, an aide to Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson in Las Vegas. She said Quate killed one of their children and left the body in a container in the garage of a Centreville home.

Officials told KLAS that the child's body was found so badly decomposed that authorities weren't able to determine the gender. No charges have been filed in IL, either, though a homicide investigation continues.

Centreville, Illinois, officers found the body Tuesday after a woman at a shelter in Las Vegas told police that her husband had killed their 6-year-old daughter before they moved. An autopsy is expected to take place later this week, St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. said. Centreville police Sgt. DeMarius Thomas Sr. told the St. Louis Post-Disaptch that police believe the child was killed in nearby Belleville, Ill, and dumped in the garage.

She said her husband had killed their third daughter, 6, during an altercation when the family was still living in IL. Authorities believe the girl had been killed in 2013.
