48 fallen officers remembered during 'Police Week' in Honolulu

Local officer says they were honored to show their support to families.

The last Mansfield police officer to lose his life in the line of duty was Brian D. Evans on December 26, 2007.

Of those officers, 143 of them died past year.

The President asked the Justice Department to develop new strategies to prevent and prosecute violent crimes against officers. The DPS Peace Officer Memorial Service is always held in conjunction with National Police Week.

"To them and their families, and to all law enforcement professionals who serve and protect us, tonight we say 'Thank you, '" he said.

The president also singled out several names of law enforcement officials who perished as a result of anti-police attacks in 2016.

"Obviously, we don't want more people added to that list, that would be one of my hopes", said Jared.

The Law Enforcement Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, May 17, 2017.
